I’m always excited to introduce new industry experts to Totally Dazzled’s blog readers and today’s expert, Kate Whelan, is no exception. Kate Whelan Events has an extraordinary portfolio built on hard work, a keen attention to detail, and an absolute love for the events that they plan.
Kate, president of Kate Whelan Events, built a beautiful booming business so-to-say by accident. While she was planning non-profit events for her corporate job, she received requests from friends to plan and oversee their wedding day. As word got out (and it tends to spread like wildfire), Kate Whelan Events began to grow beyond the original scope and Kate had to leave her day job to focus on and manage her event planning company.
The team at KWE immerses itself in excellence, paying attention to the finer details that really make an event pop. As Kate says in her interview:
“We love details – both organizational and aesthetic. Our tagline, “Events of Extraordinary Detail” fits the bill on that front”".
Their mission to obtain excellence doesn’t just lie in the design and its details but also in the organization of each event. Putting together a wedding with little to no hiccups requires a clever system and Kate and her team rely on software to assist and help track the process and the progress while keeping all parties well-organized. This allows them up to concentrate on the things they really love doing - designing the wedding or event of your dreams.
The tech is also a huge benefit for those who are planning long-distance or destination weddings and Kate has made mention that Kate Whelan Events will be branching out in the future, taking more destination weddings on this year. As the business grows, Kate would like to leave an international footprint and has already started laying the foundation, making connections across the world that will help her business expand and her weddings reach new and exciting destinations.
“…we are very techy, so we’re great for those planning long-distance or destination weddings.”
Kate’s business has seen many successes but one that really stands out to her is a 450-person luxury wedding that was planned in just under two months from start to finish. For those of you who have planned your own weddings, or have been part of planning a wedding in any way, will know what a feat this is. There was not even a venue booked when Kate’s company was approached and the situation called for a creative but tricky solution with the couple opting for a custom tent.
It’s moments like these that Kate and her team can stand back and admire the hard work that they’ve put into building a successful boutique full-service event design and coordination company. The reward for them is seeing the details come to life and communicating the idea behind each story, as Kate calls her weddings. To her, wedding planning is like storytelling and it’s exactly why she doesn’t have one distinct style that she sticks to but rather delves into each individual couple, wedding and event to get to the bottom of their storylines.
Talking trends, one of the things that KWE is very excited to see the return to the wedding scene is that of vibrant colors. Even though neutral tones and metallic palettes are gorgeous, Kate is quite excited to be working a spot of color again. Her favorites are the deep jewel tones, copper accents and clear acrylic as a texture.
Food trends are also an exciting addition to her weddings and can be loads of fun for the guests who attend the events.
Kate Whelan Events portfolio is definitely one to brag about and is full of gorgeous, romantic, exciting and even exotic events. I’ve picked out just a few of my favorites but if I could, I would have showcased her entire portfolio on our site!
